Real people - real action - real change
IT'S NO SECRET THERE'S AN INDUSTRY WIDE SKILL SHORTAGE. UBC BELIEVES THAT THE SOLUTION IS IN THE SOCIAL VALUE THAT COMES FROM THE UNEARTHED POTENTIAL OF YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WHO JUST NEED A CHANCE FOR CHANGE.
Our mission is to stop the cycles of generational poverty for disadvantaged people and solve the skills shortage crisis in the construction industry. We do this by accelerating Indigenous led mentoring, training and recruitment.

Our vision is to create a ripple effect where youth become leaders so they can pay it forward by mentoring the next generation.

When a young Yirrigandji man was given the opportunity to create and shape a future for him and his family many years ago, he took it. 35 years later, Dennis Mohamed is the Director and founder of SDC Group, a leader in the construction industry. SDC has created the ripple effect of change for many young men and women who, in-turn, have found employment, skills and confidence in the world.
Dennis has a clear vision to help people achieve their goals. With UBC, Dennis brings this support system to life so that youth can become leaders, and one day pay it forward for future generations of Australians.
In early 2022, a group of Cairns local, Indigenous Youth participated in a pilot program designed to give them confidence and basic skills necessary to enter the construction industry. UBC, in partnership with SDC Group and the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment achieved some amazing results:
* 88% retention rate of Youth in the pilot * 86% entered into employment * Generated over $35,000 in social value *Achieved the objectives of the Queensland Indigenous procurement Policy * Achieved the objectives of the Queensland Government Building and Construction training policy *
